Week 2

While blogging isn't a new thing in technology, it's a new concept to me. I have never had a blog before, let alone followed or read many. This class is opening my eyes to connecting to others people and teachers through blogs!

One of the really exciting things I realized this week was all of the features of the site quizlet! I read about it on one of the technology blogs that I started following and I decided to try it out. I used it once in college as a exam prep, but I didn't know that I could make my own flashcards or quizzes!

My fifth graders just began communicating with students in a school in Boston. When I was a kid, the activity was called "the pen pal activity" and we had to write letters and mail them to our pen pal. Now the students have access to computers, tablets, and phones and it opens up a whole new world for communication between students. One of the activities I am going to do is use quizlet to create flashcards related to Boston base on the information the Boston students send us and then we will create flash cards related to Haifa and send the link to the Boston students. This way they can add on as they learn and then reference the flashcards later on (quizlet has an app for Android!)

I'm excited about trying quizlet out with my older kids because it is a helpful study tool (especially since they have a big exam coming up in 5th grade)!
